CHALLANS ET SON CANTON

CHALLANS IN BYE GONE DAYS

ON THURSDAY 15th AND 22nd JULY, 5th AND 19th AUGUST

- A day in 1910
The "Autrefois Challans" society organises each summer four olden day fairs. 1700 volunteers are mobilised to prepare this gigantic fresco of the past which has become the foremost demonstration with free entry of the Pays-de-la-Loire region. With constant care for authenticity and celebration, the "Maraîchin" people renew with the gestures of their forebears threshing dry beans, producing linen, making bread and wine…

- Continuous animations
Mixing with the actors, the visitors are always and everywhere in the heart of the action. The cyclists of the Tour de France 1910 ride their magnificent velocipedes. The false "officials" march accompanied by folk groups and musicians. They are escorted by motorcyclists on their shining and throbbing machines and are followed with difficulty dressed companions. One can also have a drive on the attractive horse-drawn cats. The fair will surprise you with its game from 1910. The children can discover sort of school that their great grand-parents attended as well as their games, and they can enjoy sliding inside "Léon", the largest duck-slide in the world.

- Olden day fair and marsh
At the end of the day, the festivities are prolonged at the Marsh Fair to the sound of the accordeon and to the rhythm of various games. The newly-weds, followed by their procession, arrive at the large city hall where tables are laid to invite the guests to a typical "marsh wedding", a lively banquet which will allow you to spend an unforgettable evening, whilst discovering the traditions of our countryside.
