Located at the edge of marshes, Chateauneuf name originates from a castle built during the Middle Ages, which replaced a lookout tower, which was standing on the "Motte Feodale". It explains its name as 'Castellum Novum': 'New Castle' in Latin as indeed the castle appeared new in comparison with the original tower.
